Getting Started with Norton Family
Norton Family enables your children to explore the web safely while keeping you informed about their online activities and where they spend their time. Follow the steps below to set up Norton Family and ensure your kids can enjoy the internet securely. You can also install Norton Family on your mobile device to receive instant alerts and adjust family settings anytime. For more details, see

Signing in to Norton
- Sign in to your account.
If you do not have a Norton account, click Create an account and complete the sign-up process. - If your account has a Norton Family subscription or a subscription with Parental Controls, click Set up Family in the Parental Controls tile.
Adding a Child to Your Account
- In the Child Name field, enter the child's name. Special characters like &, #, or $ are not allowed.
- Choose Select an Avatar or Upload Photo to set a profile picture for your child.
- After completing the setup for the first child, you can add more children to your account.
- Select the Restriction Level based on your child's age.
Norton Family will automatically apply house rules according to the selected restriction level. You can customize these rules at any time to match your child's maturity level. - Click Next.
- Install Norton Family on each device that your child uses.

You can add up to 15 children to your account and modify or remove them at any time.
After adding your child's profile to your account, the next step is to install the Norton Family app on your child's device to monitor their activities.
Installing Norton Family on Windows
- On the Norton Family Setup screen, follow one of these steps:
- If the device is used by the parent:
- Select the Parent Profile and then choose Windows PC. Enter your child's email address to send the download link, or share the link directly from the Copy Link tab.
Open the email on your child's device and follow the installation instructions for the Norton Family app. - If the device is used by the child: select the Child Profile and continue to the next step.
- Norton Family will automatically detect your operating system. Click Download.
- Click or run the downloaded installer file.
- The Norton Download Manager will automatically install Norton Family on the device.
- Review the User License Agreement and click Agree & Install.
- The device will automatically be linked to your account.
- Click Continue.
- In the Assign Device window, click Edit next to the child you want to assign the device to.
- Click Sign In As and choose the account your child uses to log on to the device. If your child has multiple user accounts, repeat this step for each account.
- Click Save > OK.
Installing Norton Family on Android
- On the Norton Family Setup screen, follow one of these steps:
- If the device is used by the parent:
- Select the Parent Profile and choose Android. Use your child's device to scan the QR code to download the Norton Family app. Alternatively, you can copy and share the direct download link from the Copy Link tab.
Open the app on your child's device and follow the instructions to complete the installation. - If the device is used by the child: select the Child Profile and proceed to the next step.
- Click Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open the Norton Family Parental Control app.
- Review the Norton License Agreement and other policies, then click Continue.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Start Activation: Enter the activation code in the portal, then click Activate.
On the child’s device, wait a few minutes for the correct account email and child’s name to appear. Click Confirm & Continue. - Sign In: Sign in to your account, select the child to whom you want to assign the device, and give the device a recognizable name. Click Continue.
- Allow the permission requests for Norton Family to begin monitoring the device:
- Device Administrator: Click Activate to prevent your child from uninstalling Norton Family without your permission.
- Accessibility: Click Norton Family Accessibility Service and turn it on.
- App Usage Access: Click Permit usage access for the Norton Family app.
- Once all required permissions are granted (indicated by green check marks), click Continue.

These steps may vary slightly depending on the Android version.
Installing Norton Family on iOS:
- On the Norton Family Setup screen, follow one of these steps:
- If the device is used by the parent: Select the Parent Profile, then choose iOS. Use your child’s device to scan the QR code to download the Norton Family app, or share the direct download link from the Copy Link tab.
Open the app on your child's device and follow the installation instructions. - If the device is used by the child: Select the Child Profile and proceed to the next step.
- Install the Norton Family Parental Control application.
- Click Open.
- Click Allow to enable notifications from Norton Family.
- Review the Norton License Agreement and other policies, then click Continue.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Start Activation: enter the activation code in the portal, then click Activate. Wait a few minutes on the child’s device, then click Confirm & Continue.
- Sign In: Sign in to your Norton Family account, select the child to whom you want to assign the device, and give the device a recognizable name. If you need to add a child, sign in to your account.
- Click Install VPN and follow the on-screen instructions.
- The VPN is necessary for monitoring or blocking web activities when your child uses apps other than the Norton Family browser.
- Allow the permission requests for Norton Family to start monitoring the device.
- Click Install Profile and follow the on-screen instructions.
- The profile installation is required for features such as instant lock and time supervision to function on your child’s device.
