Setup Safe Web

Windows or Mac:

  1. Next to Safe Web, click Set up or the > icon to configure the feature. You can view the status of Safe Web reports on other devices where you have enabled the Safe Web feature.
  2. If you want to add an additional device, click Add device, and scan the QR code from your mobile device that has Norton 360 installed.
  3. If you want to configure the Safe Web settings on your current device, click This device, and configure the following settings:
    1. Overview: This tab lets you turn off or turn on the Safe Web feature and provides you with detailed information about the detections.
    2. Settings: This tab lets you configure the Safe Web settings for your device. For detailed information about Safe Web settings, refer to the below section on Configuring Safe Web settings: 
      1. Blocked websites: This tab lets you block access to specific websites that you think are malicious.
      2. Exclusions: If you know that a website is safe, this tab lets you add it as an exception so that Safe Web does not scan it.
      3. Safe Web is now set up on your device to help protect you from scams when shopping or browsing online.

Android

  1. Next to Safe Web, tap Set up > Start setup > Continue.
  2. In Accessibility alert notification, tap OK.
  3. In the Accessibility screen, tap Downloaded apps, and tap Norton 360 Service.
  4. Tap the slider next to Norton 360 Service to turn the service on (blue) and tap Allow.
  5. In the Safe Web Setup screen and tap Open settings.
  6. In the Display over other apps screen, scroll down and tap Norton 360.
  7. Tap the slider next to Display over other apps to turn the service on (blue).
  8. In the Safe Web Setup screen, tap Continue and tap Allow.
Safe Web is now set up on your device to help protect you from scams when shopping or browsing online.

iOS

  1. Next to Safe Web, tap Set up > Get started > Next.
  2. In the alert notification, tap Allow.

Configure Safe Web settings

The Safe Web feature is designed to proactively block new or unknown malware programs before they attack your computer. Protecting your browser, your Norton product helps secure sensitive information and prevents attackers from controlling your system remotely.
With Safe Web turned on, your Norton product helps block malware before it can attack. It helps protect your sensitive information and prevent attackers from accessing your computer.
Notes
The Safe Web feature is available for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge browsers.

Configure Safe Web settings

  1. Open your Norton device security product.
  2. On the left pane, click Security.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Security > Web > Safe Web.
  4. In the Safe Web window, in the Settings tab, turn on or turn off the following settings:
    1. Website Scanning: Scans for malicious websites and helps block malware as you browse the Internet.
    2. HTTPS scanning: Ensures that encrypted (HTTPS) and unencrypted (HTTP) websites are scanned for potential threats.
    3. QUIC/HTTP3 scanning: Scans communications sent and received via Google's QUIC protocol.
    4. Web socket protocol scanning: Scans communications sent and received via web socket protocol.
    5. DNS/DoH scanning: Scans communications over DNS and encrypted DNS (DNS over HTTPS or DoH) protocols.
    6. Protect against botnets: Prevents botnets from using your computer to attack other computers. When this option is turned on, your Norton product detects and helps block botnets from connecting to malicious command-and-control servers. This way, cybercriminals cannot use botnets to remotely control your computer.
    7. Generate report file: Helps you generate a log file of all the Browser Protection activities.
You can find the report file in the following location: C:\ProgramData\Norton\Antivirus\report
  1. Download Intelligence: Helps protect your computer against unsafe files you download.
Download Intelligence uses the reputation details of executable file you download using the browser to download the file first in the Sandbox environment. Based on the analysis performed in Sandbox, Download Intelligence decides whether the downloaded file is safe to install. In case the file is unsafe, Download Intelligence blocks the execution of the file and notifies you about the detected threat.

Block access to a specific website

  1. Open your Norton device security product.
  2. On the left pane, click Security.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Security > Web > Safe Web.
  4. In the Safe Web window, click the Blocked Websites tab.
  5. Click Add/Block Website.
  6. Type the URL of the website that you want to block and click Add.
To edit a blocked website, click the pencil icon next to the item, then make the changes to the URL and click Save.

Allow access to a specific website

  1. Open your Norton device security product.
  2. On the left pane, click Security.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Security > Web > Safe Web.
  4. In the Safe Web window, click the Blocked Websites tab.
  5. Click the X icon next to the item in the blocked list.

Exclude websites from being scanned by Safe Web

  1. Open your Norton device security product.
  2. On the left pane, click Security.
  3. Navigate to Advanced Security > Web > Safe Web.
  4. In the Safe Web window, click the Exclusions tab.
  5. Click Add/Add Exclusion.
  6. Type the URL of the website that you want to exclude from website scanning and click Add.
To remove an item, click the X icon next to the item in the Exclusions list.

To edit an excluded website, click the pencil icon next to the item, then make the changes to the URL and click Save.
